Do I need to make reservations for Hanauma Bay?

A : You're free to drive here yourself and enjoy the pleasures of Hanauma Bay on your own, without needing to make reservations. Of course, since the parking tends to fill up quite early (by 7:30 AM on a busy day), taking a convenient shuttle to this popular destination is the more relaxed way to enjoy this popular Oahu attraction. Convenient shuttle service will collect you at your Waikiki hotel and deliver you to the fun. Pick from these great options:
  • Extended Shuttle - This 4 1/2 hour visit includes round trip transportation to/from your Waikiki hotel, plus snorkel equipment (fins, mask, snorkel). Three pick-up times: 7:15 AM, 8:45 AM, 10:15 AM. $25
  • North Shore & Hanauma Bay Snorkel - A full day of fun that includes round trip transportation to/from your Waikiki hotel, experienced tour guides, a visit to Banzai Pipeline Beach and Waimea Bay, stand up paddleboarding or kayaking, lunch at Turtle Town, a visit to the Dole Pineapple Plantation, snorkel gear and 2 1/2 hours at Hanauma Bay. Pick-up time: 7:30 AM. Return: 5:00 PM. Prices vary.

A : With an emphasis on maintaining the pristine nature of this beautiful area, the Hanauma Bay Nature Preserve places a strong emphasis on conservation. Yet they also strive to share this natural resource with locals and visitors as often as possible. To ensure these competing goals can both be met, Hanauma Bay is closed to visitors every Tuesday to ensure that the fish and bay have one day of undisturbed rest each week. Following this schedule, marine biologists have seen dramatic improvements in the Bay since the preserve was established in 1967.
