If you're ready to experience the best surf conditions on the planet, Oahu's North Shore is the place to be. And whether you've never rode a single wave or are ready to try the big boys, surf lessons in Honolulu are the place to start. Carrying on the tradition of the "Waikiki Beachboy," today you can find surf and standup paddleboard lessons, outrigger canoe rides and catamaran charter sails at Waikiki Beach Services. They've taught paddlers to hang ten and ride barrels since 1955. You can also rent surfboards and stand up paddleboards at their two great locations on Waikiki Beach. Our hotel puts you just minutes away from the action and the waves.

What do I need to bring for my surf lesson?

A :

Learning to surf is fun and there's no place better to do it than Oahu. Our certified surf instructors will have you catching the next wave in a fun and safe way. To make the most of your surf lesson, please plan to bring the following items:

  • Waterproof sunscreen
  • Towel
  • Beach Cover Up 
  • Rashguard (complimentary rashguards are available to use during your lesson...wearing one will help prevent chafing that many newbie surfers experience)

One thing you should NOT bring to the beach are any valuables, since there are no storage lockers or secure areas for your beach bags.

Should I tip my surf instructor?

A : The surf lifestyle brings instructors from all walks of life to Oahu's sunny shores for the great climate and big waves. And when they're not teaching, you'll find them out on the water themselves, doing what they love most. It's a simple life and one that is hard to resist. If you've had a great time sharing your instructor's passion for riding the waves, a tip is always appreciated and guaranteed to bring you a sincere mahalo in return. Most guests leave between $10 - $20.
